I Don't Want To Get Run Over

Patrick Cannell © 2019

I don't want to get run over and yet I always do
By wagons filled with diamonds on their way to you.
I know it's getting late and you've got better things to do
But I just thought I'd mention it to you.

I don't want to get run over, I'm far too good for that.
The truck that you are driving has squashed my body flat.
I know you must be busy and I don't want to bore
But would you kindly scape me off the floor?

If I were you I'd be happy too,
Celebrating my newfound success.
Claim your stake while you're on the make.
The patterns of progress always make a mess.

I don't want to get run over by glorious ideals,
Continuous improvements with spikes upon their heels.
Please don't think there's any solution on its way,
Time and tide have always been the same.

If I were you I'd be happy too,
Celebrating my newfound success.
Claim your stake while you're on the make.
The patterns of progress always make a mess.
